Worship Services at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

The Saturday service is a “Praise and Worship” service, using newer and contemporary songs and hymns. Sometimes an old hymn is given a contemporary arrangement. The music is led by a praise team comprised of singers and instrumentalists. The keyboard is the main instrument in this service but drums and guitar are often featured as well.

The Sunday morning services use liturgy and hymns from The Lutheran Service Book. The hymns represent the historical hymnody of the church as well as offerings from recent composers and writers. The music is played mainly on piano and organ.

Children are an important part of the congregation as well and each worship service features a “Children’s Message,” where the children are invited up front to take part in a special time just for them.

Mount Calvary is a Lutheran church and all the worship reflects the liturgical tradition of the Lutheran Church. The seasons of the Church Year – Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost are all celebrated. During the seasons of Advent and Lent, a 7:00 pm Wednesday evening service is added. The historical tradition of appointed Bible readings determine the Scriptures for each week and those Scriptures set the theme for the music and the sermon. Choirs, Bells, Chimes, and other instruments add to the voices of the congregation to make the worship services at Mount Calvary a joyful time of worship and praise as the Word is preached and the Sacraments are received.

Holy Communion

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated the first and third weekends of each month.  It is the belief of the Lutheran Church, based on Jesus’ own words, that in this Sacrament His body and blood are really present and that forgiveness of sins  and the assurance of salvation are offered to all who come confessing their sins and believing in Him. Communion is therefore offered to those who share this confession of faith. Children who are not yet confirmed are invited to come forward with their parents to receive a blessing. Guests who may have questions about Communion at Mount Calvary are encouraged to talk to Pastor Brighton.

Nursery

A nursery, with qualified attendants, is provided for the care of children four years or younger.  The attendants can serve your little one’s needs each Sunday from 9:10 AM until 12:30 PM.  Ushers can help with directions.

Cry Room

We enjoy families attending service.  If needed, there is a cry room adjacent to the sanctuary, over to the right as you face the altar, with a large window and audio wiring.  In quiet moments, we ask that children, who may get a bit loud, be taken either to the cry room or the nursery.
