The congregation of Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Warner Robins, GA will present a production of the musical drama, “Rough Wood and Rusty Nails,” December 7, 8, and 9 in the church sanctuary.
Written by Mt Calvary’s director of music, Tim Jacobsmeyer, the musical tells the traditional Christmas story from the viewpoint of Joseph. Through Scripture, song, dance, and monologue, the play explores what Joseph is thinking and feeling as he tries to come to grips with events that turn his well ordered world upside down. Besieged by strange dreams and a host of unusual visitors from lowly shepherds to royalty, he contemplates what it means to be entrusted with raising the child Jesus, the “Son of the Most High.”
The sixteen original songs range in style from traditional choir anthems, to rock, to new age, to even rap, in which a funky Caesar Augustus makes his decree that “all the world must be enrolled.” Though admission to the production is free, an offering will be gathered under the direction of Caesar and his Roman Soldiers. The multigenerational cast is made up entirely of church members with ages ranging from one to ninety five years.
Curtain time for all three performances is 7:00 p.m. Mt Calvary Lutheran Church is located at 336 Carl Vinson Pkwy in Warner Robins, GA.
