Mount Calvary Lutheran Church will sponsor three Red Cross blood drives in 2018: March 15, July 3, and November (date to be determined). The March 15th blood drive will be in the Fellowship Hall from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The Red Cross has been very appreciative of our congregations support in the past. Last November, our drive collected 21 pints of blood. Each pint can save the lives of three people! Our goal for the March drive is to exceed 21 pints. We’re hopeful that we can do this with the size of our congregational and your help with publicity. Let your neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. know about it and bring them along! If you haven’t given blood before, here is how it works: 1) you sign in and read some information, 2) the red Cross will check your blood pressure, iron level, pulse, and temperature and ask you some health questions, 3) the actual donation process takes about 10 minutes, 4) then enjoy some juice and cookies. Allow about an hour for the whole process. AND, it’s safe; you cannot contract any infectious diseases including AIDS. Basic eligibility requirements are age of at least 17 years, weigh at least 110 pounds, and general good health. Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are accepted. You can make reservations using redcrossblood.org (enter zip code 31088 and find MCLC) or use the sign-up sheet on the information counter in the narthex. Much more information is available on the website. For example, did you know that 1) approximately every two seconds, someone in America needs blood, 2) 38 percent of the population is eligible to give blood but only a fraction ot those people actually do, 3) the Red Cross is the single largest blood supplier in the United States? If you can’t donate blood, you can still help. We need 8 volunteers, 2 per hour for the 4 hours, to register blood donors and help with the Red Cross provided refreshments. If you can help this way or have any questions, please contact Bruce Bauman.
