Lenten Sermon Series

On the six weekends in Lent (February 17/18-March 24/25) we will enjoy a special series of sermons entitled: “Being Christian.” Each weekend we will reexamine who we are in Christ – what “being” a Christian means in today’s world – being a Christian in the home, at work, at church, in the community and what it means for the Christian to bear the cross. At the same time, all of our adults are invited to a Bible study that will take a more in-depth look at these same topics. Look for a letter in the mail soon!

Midweek Lenten Series

This year our Midweek Lenten and Holy Week series will focus on the seven Penitential Psalms (Psalms 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143 – given the name “Penitential Psalms” already in the sixth century AD!) and the Passion Psalm, Psalm 22, which will be our focus on Good Friday. The season of Lent is a penitential season, when we review our own sinfulness as well as the fact that we “daily sin much and surely deserve nothing but punishment,” as Luther says in his explanation of the Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer in his Small Catechism. May our Wednesdays this Lent be a time of honest reflection on our sinfulness as well as a time to hear God’s gracious words of forgiveness and encouragement!
